Committee of “Humanities Lecture” Course

The school-level curriculum committee is set up by the Center of General Education. It is mainly responsible for the overall orientation of the general education course of the school, as well as coordination with other courses. There will be seven deans from the university to play a role as ex officio members, including the dean of School of medicine. Otherwise, the committee of college-level curriculum will be composed of members of School of Humanities and Social Sciences, and representatives of university students. They will be responsible for the overall design of the general course, the coordination between the courses, and the review of the newly opened courses, etc. In addition, in view of the general education course, which includes general and language courses, the general education course consists of six major areas.

Currently, different fields and language areas will set up their own course committees respectively. The committees will plan the details of the courses, review the effectiveness of existing courses, as well as evaluation from students, and review the newly opened syllabus. Moreover, for any of the students whose department has this course, should they have the need to sign up for this course, they can work closely with the course committee and the Center of General Education, in order to create a student-centered learning environment.

Besides, in order to strengthen the lecturer quality of general education courses, the school has set up a Humanities Course since year 103, in cooperation with Academia Sinica. The researchers from Academia Sinica will be responsible for the course, while being assisted by teaching assistants in order to enhance the classroom interaction. In fact, the diversity of this course has established a model for domestic general education courses. Since the first semester of year 106, the National Defense Medical Center and the Taipei Medical University have also joined the Humanities Course to jointly improve the quality of general education in the country. In order to design and implement the Humanities Course, the Academia Sinica has set up a Humanities Course Committee which consists of four relevant units of supervisors and teachers, to conduct reviews based on course orientation, course structure, new courses, teaching assistant training, student learning status and other related matters.

Under this goal, the school's general education course will be having a total of 24 credits for mandatory courses. In which, 18 credits for general education courses, and 6 credits for language courses. The general education course is further divided into the core general education course (12 credits mandatory course) and the liberal arts general education course (6 credits elective course). All in all, it covers a total of six major areas. Out of the 6 main courses of this general education course, students must at least select 4 main courses to complete. While language courses will be divided into: Mandarin (2 credits) and English (4 credits). (As shown below)
